Starlink Increases Monthly Internet Subscription Price in Nigeria to ₦57,000

Starlink, the satellite internet service owned by Elon Musk’s SpaceX, has announced another price increase for its monthly subscription in Nigeria. Starting from May 30, 2025, users on the Standard (Residential) plan will now pay ₦57,000 per month, up from the previous ₦38,000.
This change comes just seven months after Starlink initially raised its prices from ₦38,000 to ₦75,000 in October 2024. At that time, the company blamed the increase on high inflation and the falling value of the Nigerian naira. However, despite the announcement, many customers continued paying the old price (₦38,000) until April 2025.
Why the Price Keeps Changing
Starlink’s pricing in Nigeria has been unstable due to fluctuations in the exchange rate between the naira and the US dollar. When Starlink first launched in Nigeria in January 2023, its monthly subscription was $43 (about ₦64,300 at today’s exchange rate). The company later switched to naira pricing, setting the cost at ₦38,000—a discount compared to the dollar rate.
However, as the naira lost value (reaching nearly ₦1,900 per dollar in early 2024), Starlink increased prices multiple times:
March 2024: The router price jumped from ₦378,000 to ₦800,000.
April 2024: After the naira recovered slightly, the router price was reduced to ₦440,000.
October 2024: Starlink announced a ₦75,000 monthly fee, but this was later suspended after the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) said the increase was not approved.
Now, with the naira trading at around ₦1,493 per dollar, Starlink has settled on a new price of ₦57,000—still lower than the dollar equivalent but higher than before.
What This Means for Customers
Existing users will start paying ₦57,000 from May 30, 2025.
New customers will pay the new price immediately.
The router price remains ₦590,000 (unchanged from the last update).
Starlink says the price adjustment helps maintain service quality and invest in better infrastructure. However, some customers are frustrated by the frequent changes.
Regulatory Issues with NCC
In October 2024, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) warned that Starlink’s price hike was not approved and violated local telecom laws. Starlink then paused the increase and refunded customers who had already paid the higher fee.
The company also warned that if regulatory issues continued, it might stop services in Nigeria. Now, with the new ₦57,000 price, it is unclear if the NCC has approved this increase or if another dispute could arise.
Starlink Increases Monthly Internet Subscription Price in Nigeria to ₦57,000
It is not yet clear if Starlink is raising prices in other countries or if this change is specific to Nigeria. The company often adjusts prices based on local economic conditions, exchange rates, and operational costs.
Starlink’s latest price increase reflects the challenges of providing satellite internet in a country with an unstable currency. While the new ₦57,000 fee is lower than the previously announced ₦75,000, it is still a 50% increase from the original ₦38,000.
Customers hope the price will stabilize soon, but with Nigeria’s economic uncertainties, further changes cannot be ruled out.
