Flutterwave Launches Digital Payment Services in Cameroon After Securing Key Licence

Yaoundé, Cameroon – Flutterwave, a leading African payments technology company, has officially started its digital payment services in Cameroon. This comes after the company received a Payment Service Provider (PSP) licence from the Central Bank of Central African States (BEAC).

The licence allows Flutterwave to legally operate in Cameroon, offering businesses and individuals a secure and easy way to make and receive digital payments. The company achieved this milestone by partnering with Ecobank, a major pan-African banking group.

This move is part of Flutterwave’s plan to connect Africa’s fragmented payment systems and grow its services across the continent. Cameroon is an important market for Flutterwave, especially in Francophone Africa, where digital payments are becoming more popular.

What Flutterwave’s Entry Means for Cameroon

With Flutterwave now in Cameroon, businesses from small traders to large international companies—can use its digital payment platform. The service supports different payment methods, including mobile money, bank transfers, and card payments.

For small businesses, Flutterwave offers a simple way to accept payments by generating payment links that can be shared on social media platforms like WhatsApp and Instagram. Larger companies will benefit from advanced features such as fraud detection tools, local customer support, and smooth cross-border transactions.

Cameroon’s digital economy is growing, thanks to increasing internet access and mobile phone usage. Flutterwave’s arrival is expected to boost this growth by making digital payments more accessible.

What Flutterwave’s CEO Says

Olugbenga ‘GB’ Agboola, Founder and CEO of Flutterwave, said:

Challenges and Opportunities

While Flutterwave’s entry is a big step for Cameroon’s fintech industry, there are still challenges. The country has strict financial regulations, and not all areas have reliable internet access. Many people, especially in rural regions, still prefer cash over digital payments.

However, Flutterwave’s partnership with Ecobank and approval from BEAC show its commitment to following local laws. The company has used a similar approach in other African countries where it operates.

Flutterwave’s Growing Presence in Africa

Cameroon is the latest addition to Flutterwave’s expanding network. The company now has payment licences in over 30 African countries, including Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa, Ghana, and Egypt. It also operates in the United States, Europe, and the United Kingdom.

According to Flutterwave, its technology supports 1.5 million businesses across 34 countries. So far, it has processed more than 630 million transactions worth $31 billion.
