JAMB Warns Against Fake Resit Exam Results and Messages

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has warned the public that it is not responsible for the resit UTME exam results being shared online. According to JAMB, the results being shared are fake. The messages are being sent using a fake version of JAMB’s official shortcode, 66019.

JAMB’s spokesperson, Fabian Benjamin, said the people spreading these messages are trying to trick students and commit fraud. The fake messages tell some students who already took the resit exam and got their results, to print out new exam slips for another exam. JAMB said this is not true and there is no such exam planned.

JAMB made it clear that there is no resit exam currently scheduled. The only real exam JAMB is planning is for students outside Nigeria, in about nine countries in Europe, the Middle East, and other African nations. The dates for these foreign exams have not been fixed yet.

The board also said that a special mop-up exam will happen in 2025. This exam is for students who missed their exams earlier because of issues like problems with their fingerprints or for those given special permission (waivers). Only these students will be allowed to write the mop-up exam.

JAMB reminded everyone to ignore the fake messages and wait for official announcements. Only students who qualify for the mop-up exam will be contacted by JAMB when everything is ready.

Background: JAMB’s Troubles with the 2025 UTME

Recently, there has been a lot of confusion and news about JAMB’s 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME). Last week, there were reports that JAMB had released the resit results, showing big improvements in students’ scores. These reports claimed that the 2025 resit results were the best since 2017.

This comes after the original UTME in April 2025 had major problems. There were technical issues and human errors that affected about 379,000 students. These problems happened mostly in Lagos and the South-East states. Many students scored poorly. Out of 1.9 million who took the exam, over 1.5 million scored below 200. Because of complaints from students and parents, JAMB decided to let over 300,000 affected students take the exam again between May 16 and May 19, 2025.

Better Results in the Resit Exam?

An education expert named Alex Onyia shared his analysis online. He said the resit exam results are much better than before. For example:

  • In 2025, 17,025 students scored 300 and above, which is 0.88% of all candidates. In 2024, only 8,401 students scored that high (0.46%).

  • 117,373 students scored 250 and above in 2025, compared to 77,070 in 2024.

  • 565,698 students scored 200 and above this year, more than 439,961 in 2024.

Alex Onyia said that these are the best results since 2017. He said, “From the worst results just weeks ago to the best in nine years. I knew this would happen.”

Students Share Their Success Stories

Many students posted their stories online showing big improvements in their scores. One student named Nwadike Chukwubuikem Chidiebere scored 153 in the first exam and 361 in the resit. Another student said their score went from 142 to 290. A third said they scored 173 at first but got 350 in the resit—even though they were sick and only had two days to study.

What’s Still Not Clear

Even though many students have shared better scores online, JAMB has not officially confirmed that it has finished processing or releasing all the resit results. So, there’s still some confusion, and people are waiting for JAMB to release an official statement.

In the meantime, JAMB is warning students and the public to be careful and not fall for fake messages. Only trust announcements made directly by JAMB.
