11 Injured in Car Crash on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Near Magboro

At least 11 people were injured in a serious head-on collision involving two vehicles along the Magboro section of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Saturday.

According to a PUNCH Metro reporter who visited the scene shortly after the accident, one of the drivers fled before emergency services arrived.

Although three passengers were unharmed, the injured victims were taken to a nearby hospital for urgent medical treatment.

Crash Caused by Overspeeding – FRSC

Florence Okpe, spokesperson for the Ogun State Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), confirmed the incident. She said the crash was caused by excessive speeding, which made one of the drivers lose control of the vehicle.

“A total of 14 people were involved — 10 men and 4 women. Out of them, 11 sustained injuries, including 7 men and 4 women. Thankfully, no deaths were recorded,” Okpe stated.

She explained that the accident involved two vehicles, and one of them veered out of control due to speeding, leading to a direct collision with the other vehicle.

Driver Flees the Scene

In a troubling development, the driver of the second vehicle reportedly ran away after the crash and before officials arrived.

“An investigation is ongoing, and we’re asking the public to help with any information that could identify or locate the fleeing driver,” Okpe added.

Ongoing Investigation

The FRSC has launched a full investigation into the incident. Authorities are also urging witnesses or anyone with useful information to come forward.

This crash adds to growing concerns about road safety on major Nigerian highways, especially regarding speeding and reckless driving.
